Peebles Homes Celebrates Women in Construction Week and International Women’s Day

This week the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is celebrating their annual Women in Construction (WIC) Week. 120 chapters and over 4,000 members of the organization are striving to bring awareness to the role of women in the construction industry.

The construction industry is facing a massive labor shortage. The labor and skill needed to relieve that shortage, however, are readily available. Despite making up a fraction of the current construction workforce, women are poised to move toward the forefront of the industry with a slow, but steady influx of female engineers, architects, project leaders, tradeswomen, contractors, and more.

As well, it’s International Women’s Day. Observed since the early 1900’s, International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women

“We’re fortunate to have gifted women on the team at Peebles Homes,” Tom Peebles, Owner of Peebles Homes, said. “The inspiration, passion and talent these spirited professionals bring to the table are what sets us apart from other builders in the area!”

About NAWIC: The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) originally began as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas. Sixteen women working in the construction industry founded it in 1953. Knowing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, the founders organized NAWIC to create a support network. Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its national charter in 1955 and became the National Association of Women in Construction. With a core purpose to enhance the success of women in the construction industry, NAWIC provides its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service and more.
